What to do if your friend has lived in his new apartment for a year and a half....

...and it still looks like he's moving in???

I have a friend who moved out of state over a year and a half ago.  To his credit, he works a huge number of hours a week and also travels back home frequently to visit friends and family.  However, his apartment still looks like no one lives there and so of course we had to fix that.

Another friend and I went to visit this past weekend with the intention of helping breath a little life into the place and I think we were pretty successful.  I think our biggest achievement of the weekend was drunk painting.

Yes, you read that correctly, drunk painting.

Supplies needed are easy:
- Alcohol of your choice (we went with margaritas...)
- Blank canvases (cheapo ones that you can find at Michael's/AC Moore/Joann Fabric/whathaveyou will work just fine)
- Acrylic paint (69 center per bottle and you can have any color under the sun...)
- Some foam brushes (4.99 for a box of 20...)

First, make yourself a good strong drink.  Drink it.

Second, make a second drink.  Drink that one too.

Then, make one more, and get out your supplies.   Continue to drink periodically while you do this.  Once you're feeling pretty good (if it takes more drinks, then by all means....) get to work.  You can paint anything you'd like.  I can't paint worth a damn so I went the abstract art route.  My friend Kate painted a lovely landscape.  And Bill, the one whose apartment it is, well let's just say he went the drunk route.

(Mine is a little hard to see on the left cause it's dark...)

Because we all used the same paints, the art generally works together because the colors are similar.  Of course none of the paintings look the same and that's cool too.  We all even signed them - I bought one of those fancy silver Sharpie markers and everything!

If you were to buy 3 pieces of art for the wall - even at a discount store or something like that - you're probably looking at a good $60.00 for all 3.  We spent about $25.  We also had a canvas left over....

...so after Bill saw a small bug on the floor and in his drunk state started yelling "Kill it, kill it with fire!" we decided that a someecard inspired canvas was the correct choice to use up that other one we had laying around.  The results were pretty epic:

Drunk painting is now one of my favorite pasttimes and I plan on employing the tactic again when I need to redecorate my living room...or something.

Do you have any favorite activities when helping a friend with a new living space?

Welcome...are we insane? Why, yes, yes we are...

One of my favorite things about my life is my friends...we're a crazy bunch and generally, we get ourselves into interesting situations all the time because, well, life is an adventure.  This blog is called the "Good Friend's Guide to Awkward Social Situations" because, much like those worst case survival handbooks and that type of thing - I'm going to aim to both entertain and inform you using insane stories from my own life.  I hope you enjoy the ride - I'll be back as often as I can...which, knowing how my friends leave me no lack of material, should be pretty often!
